New Erbium(ΙΙΙ) Complexes as Mordants for Natural Dyeing of Silk

چکیده مقاله:
The aim of this research is to develop new mordants and a wide range of colors for natural dyeing of silk. In this study, two new erbium(ΙΙΙ) complexes, [Er(AO)(H2O)7](OAc)3 and [Er(AMH)(H2O)6](OAc)3 (AO = acridine orange, AMH = azomethine-H, and OAc = acetate anion), were synthesized, characterized and used as a mordant for the natural dyeing of silk yarns with an aqueous extract of green walnut husk. The mordanting method and the effective dyeing parameters including the quantity of the dye material, the pH and temperature of the dyeing bath, the mordant concentration, and the dyeing time were carefully optimized. The colorimetric properties (L*, a*, b*, and K/S) and color fastness characteristics (light and wash) of the dyed samples were also investigated. The mordanted silk yarns with synthesized erbium(ΙΙΙ) complexes were compared to unmordanted dyed samples as well as mordanted dyed samples only with simple salts including starting erbium salt (erbium(ΙΙΙ) acetate), stannous chloride, and aluminum potassium sulfate. The results indicated that the dyeing of silk in the presence of [Er(AO)(H2O)7](OAc)3 as the mordant provides the highest color difference, whereas the treated silk with [Er(AMH)(H2O)6](OAc)3 shows the most color strength value (K/S). Furthermore, all of the mordanted and unmordanted samples exhibited proper color fastness characteristics.

Nowadays, there is a great tendency for eco-dyeing and finishing of textiles with natural products. several natural dyes have been used for dyeing of protein fibers but a low number have the ability to dye cotton fiber because of low affinity of cellulose to the natural dyes. In this study madder and weld natural colorants were used to dye cotton fabric premordanted with three metallic salt...
متن کاملA Comparative Study on Dyeing of Cotton and Silk Fabric Using Madder as a Natural Dye
Madder is considered the queen of the reds which is one of the oldest used natural dyes. In this study, madder was applied to cotton and silk fabrics by using mordants in various ways to investigate the coloring effects. Alum and copper sulphate were used as mordants not only before and after dyeing process but also during the process. The aqueous extract of the dye was applied on the scoured c...

Today, natural colorants are emerging globally due to the fact that they are safer and more environmentally-friendly. Natural dyes have been employed in dyeing Persian carpet piles for many years. In this study, the dried Achillea was used for dyeing wool yarns. The Iranian wool yarn was scoured, mordanted using Cu, Sn, Al salts and then dyed with different amounts of dried Achillea powder. In recent years, the textile industry must go towards developing of new technologies to reduce the energy and water consumption. The use of microwave in textile wet processing is one way for this purpose. The advantages of microwaves, which it is use much less liquid, they can exhaust or save dyes and leave no waste of liquid dye compared to conventional methods. Microwave dyeing has other adva...
متن کاملThe Influence of pH, Temperature and Time on Dyeing of Silk Fabric by Black Bean Anthocyanin-rich Extract as Colorant
Anthocyanins are natural dye substances that provide attractive colors from red to blue. However, large quantities of Anthocyanins have been found in wastewater from soaked black beans, resulting in environmental pollution. The utilization of theses wastewaters would therefore be an effective way of reducing environmental pollution, and the water could be used to dye silk fabric, displaying...
